Palm Bay Public Works To Host Event in June; Produces Informational Video

PALM BAY, Florida – The City of Palm Bay’s Public Works Department has two upcoming events to assist the public in a better understanding of its services.

First, it is hosting a Public Works Day on June 1 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at City Hall (120 Malabar Road, SE) to showcase the department’s activities. The event will include public works projects, equipment, educational materials, entertainment, food, children’s activities, giveaways and more. The event is free.
Also, in partnership with Space Coast Government Television (SCGTV), the department will broadcast two videos showcasing the role and function of public works in local communities.

The first video produced by the American Public Works Association, Florida Chapter, documents public works activities and how those activities make “communities work better.”
A second video, produced by the city of Palm Bay Communications and Information Technology Department, takes viewers on a tour with public works employees while they perform their jobs. The 10-minute video, titled “It’s our Job,” explains how Palm Bay Public Works maintains the infrastructure of the city, which is nearly 100 square miles. It includes everything from roads, drainage and traffic operations to mowing, landscaping, engineering and much more.

“Unless you know what a day is like without the services of the public works department, you won’t realize just how essential these services really are,” said Elia Twigg, Public Works Director. “We not only manage the infrastructure for today, we are also designing and planning the future of our city; from a new interchange and parkway to keep up with growth to new facilities like Palm Bay’s new fire station 1 to keep your neighborhoods and property safe.”
