No. 20 FIT Panthers Headed to Tampa for NCAA Division II South Regional Baseball Tourney

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Anxiously awaiting news on its position in the NCAA Division II South Regional, No. 20 Florida Tech received word Sunday that it will head to Tampa, Fla. as the No. 3 seed in the regional and face No. 4 seeded West Florida on Thursday at 7 p.m. This is the Panthers’ second appearance in the double-elimination tournament in four years and third under head coach Greg Berkemeier.

“I’m very proud of our guys for the work they have done thus far,” Berkemeier said. “We are excited to play in a great region, and look forward to the challenge.”
The Panthers reached the regional tournament after posting a 32-17 overall record and a 14-10 mark in the Sunshine State Conference. The Crimson and Gray were ranked No. 3 in the final three NCAA Division II Regional Rankings.

No. 14 West Florida enters the tournament after posting a 35-12 overall record. The Argonauts finished third in Gulf South Conference regular season play before being eliminated from the GSC Tournament by No. 6 Delta State.
Delta State will also play in the regional round as the No. 2 seed. The Statesmen will play GSC foe Valdosta State, who received the No. 5 seed after winning the GSC Tournament. The No. 1 vs. No. 6 game will feature host institution Tampa and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference automatic qualifier Stillman.

Tickets for each day of the South Region Tournament are $10 for adults and $5 for students with school ID and senior citizens.
The winner of the regional tournament will advance along with the top squads from each of the other seven regions to the NCAA Division II College World Series beginning May 25 at the USA National Baseball Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
