Update: School Board Votes to Eliminate Corridor Busing for Dual Enrolled BCC Students

The school board also voted unanimously to eliminate corridor busing with an estimated savings of approximately $1.2 million.  This includes busing to Brevard Community College for dual enrollment students and to Choice academies.

BPS School Board voted to keep Sea Park Elementary open on a 2-3 vote with Amy Kneessy, Andy Ziegler, and Dr. Michael Krupp voting against the motion to close.

BPS School Board voted to close Gardendale Elementary Magnet on a 3-2 vote with Dr. Barbara Murray, Andy Ziegler, and Karen Henderson voting in the affirmative.

BPS School Board voted to close Clearlake Middle School on a 4-1 vote with Dr. Barbara Murray, Andy Ziegler, Dr. Krupp and Karen Henderson voting in the affirmative.

BPS School Board voted to close South Lake Elementary School on a 3-2 vote with Dr. Barbara Murray, Andy Ziegler, and Karen Henderson voting in the affirmative.

A controversy arose prior to the school board meeting as Brevard Public Schools Director of District and School Security Andrea Alford told the crowd waiting in line that there would be no public comment allowed on the school closure issue.  She noted that the school board had closed public comment after their last public meeting.

Dr. Barbara Murray, Chair of the BPS school board, reiterated this point as the meeting was called to order.
